Lord Krishna’s teachings are not only for saints and monks. They are for all. His teachings are relevant even now. There is something for every person in his teachings. Everybody willing to learn the ‘art of living life’ can get everything from his teachings. Some people have a misconception that studying Lord Krishna’s duties may bring a paradigm shift in one’s thoughts and turn a person into a monk. But that’s not true. If it is the case, then why did Arjuna, who was running away from battle field, started doing his duty after listening Gita.
The third topic of the second chapter of Bhagwad Gita is related to swadharma . In this topic Lord Krishna explains how following ‘one’s own duty’ is very important. Arjuna was very much dejected, seeing that he needs to kill his relatives in order to get victory. So like any other person, he decided not to fight. Then Lord Krishna teaches him the swadharma yoga.
Meaning - Now if you refuse to fight this righteous war, then it will be shirking your duty and losing your reputation. It will be a sin.
There are times when every person needs to choose an option- right or wrong. Arjuna was a Kshatriya, so fighting a righteous war was his duty. No matter who were standing as his enemies in the war. If some relatives have started following the wrong path then those too must be slain.
But Arjuna Gets dejected seeing his relatives in the battle. That’s why Lord Krishna says that if he refuses to fight because of his dejection then he will be a coward. And this world is not for cowards. This earth is Karm-bhumi (Land of action). This earth is for those persons, who perform their duties with complete devotion.
Now this is not said for Arjuna only. This is a teaching for all the persons who are confused. Whenever you need to choose one from two options, be righteous. Doesn’t matter who are in opposite side. Sometimes you may find your relatives or even your close ones in opposition with you. But never get dejected in this condition. Choose the right option and keep on performing your duties.
Meaning- Besides, considering your own duty too, you should not waver, as there is nothing more important for a man of the warrior class than a righteous war.
Every person has got some duties to perform and it is supposed to perform all those duties in order to make everything in balance. Arjuna too was supposed to perform his duties. He was a Kshatriya so it was his duty to protect righteous peoples from the evil peoples. But failing to fight, he was failing to perform his duty too.
This is quiet relevant even now-

- If some student is not studying properly, then it is not doing its duty properly. This way it is going to harm the whole system. Now most of you may have a misconception that how carelessness of a student can harm the whole system. The thing is that every weak link in a chain makes the whole chain weak. If weak link suffers, whole chain will suffer.
- Similarly if a politician is not performing its duties well, then what will happen? It’ll ruin the whole country.
